Pool accidents happen more often during the spring and summer when pools are used the most, but you should always consider safety tips for any season, including winter. One of the most common pool accidents in winter happens because the individual did not see the pool.
Deconstruct Portable Pools
Pools that can be moved become hazards during snowstorms with heavy winds. They are lightweight and perfect for climates with warm weather year-round. However, if your weather means your pool will be dormant, then it is best to put portable pools away for winter. Draining and taking down the pool will protect it from inclement weather, so it is ready to use in warmer weather.
Solid Pool Covers
Pool accessories come in a variety of styles. The least safe pool cover for winter is the solid pool cover for a few reasons. They also are more likely to cling to a person or animal if they step on the pool cover. One of the biggest accidents with pools during the offseason is when someone steps onto the pool cover without realizing it. They can become tangled in the pool cover and drown very easily. The best pool cover to have is a safety cover; they can hold the weight of an elephant and are incredibly durable. They are low maintenance and worth the investment.
Inground Pools
As with all permanent pools, winterize your equipment and lay down a pool cover. Ask our staff about remote-controlled pool covers and other pool accessories. With inground pools, many property owners install fences as a safety measure. This is a great safety feature for any time there is no adult supervision and for closing your pool. If you do not have a fence, consider investing in a gate or pool alarm to monitor your pool properly.
Above Ground Pools
To get your above ground pool ready for winter, you must remove any steps or ladders to lead to it. If you have a pool deck or an area leading to the lip of the pool, you should close off the entrance to the pool.
