With the winter offseason for pool usage fast approaching, it’s time to think about filtration systems. Many pool owners might not know how to manage this task, especially first-time owners. However, that’s why you have the professionals on your side! Let’s look at ways to improve your pool filtration.
Cartridge Filters
Hard water, dirt, and debris can often find their way past the filters. When it comes to pool filtration, this is nothing to panic about, although too much buildup will eventually become problematic. When the filters are overwhelmed, they will begin to react the same way as air filters inside your home – that is to say, not efficiently enough. Luckily, there are ways to overcome this issue. Try using commercially-available filter cleaner products. Another option is to use a pool clarifier, and you can also experiment with a pulp fiber solution added to your pool skimmer.
Sand Filters
Sand filters are somewhat different. They don’t take much effort to operate and cleaning them out is incredibly simple. Even so, there are some ways to enhance their pool filtration efficiency. One technique is called mud-balling. Sand will form into balls as will trapped bits of lint. You will notice in the top layers of sand several mysterious mudballs, formed by oils that have already been filtered out. You will have to dig the balls out and then put down fresh sand instead.
You can also use filter cleaner to deal with any other residual problems you might come across, just like with cartridge filters. Aluminum sulfate also makes a big difference. Oh, and you can also use the slimebag. This isn’t as disgusting as it sounds. The bag is attached to the wall and provides an easy way to clean up dust, algae, and mud in your pool.
DE Pool Filters
Finally, let’s discuss DE pool filters. The DE stands for diatomaceous earth. In terms of filtering ability, the DE filters do a much better job. To help these filters work better, you can use pool enzymes, a product called dicapool perlite, which is another powder that you can use instead of diatomaceous earth. Finally, there is a method called filter bumping. With this technique, pool owners can decrease the pressure on the filter itself. You can also improve water flow and help the filter work better in the long run.
