Pool covers help keep debris and leaves out of the water inside of your pool, but they must be carefully maintained to avoid rips and tears developing. Fall leaves and yard trimmings can be bad news for your pool cover unless you know how to properly remove them. What are some of the easiest ways to remove leaves and debris from your pool cover?
Use a Leaf Blower
Leaf blowers are not just a good way to get rid of leaves in your yard. They are also a great way to remove leaves from your pool cover. Turn your leaf blower on and use it to gently push the leaves off of the cover. If the leaves are wet, the blower will not be able to work as efficiently, so you should allow them to dry before attempting to do so again.
Grab a Pool Brush
Pool brushes are versatile tools, and one of the things that they can be used to do is clean off your pool cover. Grab your pool brush and gently push the leaves off of the cover or scoop them up. As you remove leaves with this technique, make sure that you go gently and avoid placing the bristles too close to the surface. If you have bristles that are not made of nylon, there is a risk of the cover being punctured.
Install a Leaf Catcher
Did you know that there are specific tools designed to catch leaves before they ever fall on your pool cover? Pool leaf catchers are the simplest way to remove leaves. These are installed so that they sit over the surface of the pool cover. They are made of a thin mesh that is sturdy and that will allow moisture to slip through the leaves to prevent the growth of mold or mildew. Once all the leaves have dropped, you can pull the catcher off.
